1. What pool filters do
A filter removes suspended solids from circulating water. It works together with the pump (which provides flow) and disinfection (which kills pathogens). The three decisions are: media type, tank size (filtration rate), and backwash strategy.

3. Sand vs glass vs cartridge/DE
Traditional silica sand captures ~20–40 micron; recycled glass media captures ~5–10 micron and backwashes with 30–50% less water — increasingly the commercial default. 4. Sizing and backwash
